# The llms.txt generator

In short

Paste a sitemap or a list of URLs, name the site, and the generator writes an llms.txt in the llmstxt.org shape: an H1, a summary and H2 sections of links. It also gives the footer line that links the file. It runs in your browser, stores nothing, and the format is explained below without it.

## The file

\# Example Co > Example Co sells invoicing software. Pricing and the API reference are the pages most questions need. ## Docs - \[Pricing\](https://example.com/pricing): plans and limits - \[API reference\](https://example.com/docs/api): endpoints and errors - \[Quickstart\](https://example.com/docs/quickstart) ## Optional - \[Changelog\](https://example.com/changelog)

## The line for your footer

A file nobody links is a file agents rarely open: Ora's lab found 86 percent of llms.txt fetches arrived through a link. Add this to the footer of every page, and a link element to the head:

<a href="/llms.txt">llms.txt</a>

<link rel="describedby" type="text/markdown" href="/llms.txt">

## Without JavaScript

The generator is a small script that runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. If it does not run, the format is simple enough to write by hand. An H1 with the name comes first, then a blockquote summary, then H2 sections, each a list of links in the form `[name](url): notes`. A section named Optional holds links an agent can skip. The worked example below is what the form produces for the four URLs above; the titles come from the last path segment, so edit them to read well.

\# Example Co

Then grade your own file with the same six checks the [index](https://agentreadyhtml.com/llms-txt-index/) uses, which are listed on the [method page](https://agentreadyhtml.com/method/), and run the [viewer](https://agentreadyhtml.com/viewer/) on your home page to see whether the link is found. The [guide](https://agentreadyhtml.com/guides/write-an-llms-txt-that-gets-followed/) explains the structure and the size limits.
