# µTorrent (uTorrent)

> µTorrent (commonly written as uTorrent) is the world's most popular BitTorrent client, first released in 2005 by developer Ludvig Strigeus. It is known for its small file size and minimal system resource usage. µTorrent was acquired by BitTorrent, Inc. in December 2006 and is now developed by Rainberry, Inc., a subsidiary operating under the TRON ecosystem. µTorrent is available for Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux, and also as a browser-based web client.

## About µTorrent

µTorrent (the "µ" is the Greek letter "mu", representing the SI prefix "micro-") was designed to be an extremely lightweight BitTorrent client. Key historical milestones:

- 2005: First released by Ludvig Strigeus
- 2006: Acquired by BitTorrent, Inc.
- 2008: BitTorrent client version 6.0 was based on µTorrent code
- 2015: Controversy over cryptocurrency miner bundled in installer (Epic Scale); subsequently removed
- 2018: BitTorrent, Inc. (including µTorrent) acquired by TRON Foundation
- Present: Developed and maintained by Rainberry, Inc.

µTorrent and BitTorrent are sister products developed by the same company. They share core technology but are marketed separately.

Not scored by Ora. GET ora.ai/api/score/utorrent.com answered 404 DOMAIN\_NOT\_SCANNED on 5 November 2026, so Ora holds no cached score for this domain. This site asked for a cached score only and never requested a scan. A scan by the site's owner would add one.
