# React Router: vendor profile

In short

A default React Router 8.5.1 app returned a 404 with an H1 of 404 for a made-up path, but its welcome page has no H1 element and the build serves no robots.txt, llms.txt or sitemap.xml. The create-react-router template can add a React Router Agent Skill. React Router 8.0.0 shipped on 2026-06-17, and the reactrouter.com footer names Shopify.

**React Router** Framework

React Router v7 and later is the merged successor of Remix. In framework mode it server-renders documents by default (ssr: true), can prerender listed paths to static HTML, and sets 404 status codes from loaders.

## What it does for this layer

- React Router 8.0.0 shipped on 2026-06-17 as the first major release on a yearly cadence under the project's Open Governance model, per the React Router changelog. \[primary source, 2026-06-17\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/changelog), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router 8.5.1, the npm latest on 2026-11-05, is dated 2026-10-27 in the changelog; the 7.x line is still patched alongside it (7.18.5). \[primary source, 2026-10-27\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/changelog), read 5 November 2026.
- The reactrouter.com home page lists the v8 baseline as Node 22+, Vite 7+, React 19+ and ESM-only packages, and calls the upgrade from v7 non-breaking. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/), read 5 November 2026.
- The Remix team announced on 15 May 2024 that the release planned as Remix v3 would ship as React Router v7, and the post was later updated to say v7 was out (December 2024). \[primary source, 2024-05-15\] [source](https://remix.run/blog/merging-remix-and-react-router), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router framework mode supports prerendering alongside a runtime server with ssr:true, which the pre-rendering guide names as the default value, or on a static file server with ssr:false. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/pre-rendering), read 5 November 2026.
- Setting prerender: true in react-router.config.ts prerenders only the static paths from routes.ts; dynamic routes such as /blog/:slug need an explicit path list or a prerender function. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/pre-rendering), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router SPA Mode (ssr:false) still renders the root route at build time into index.html, so the shell carries the root HydrateFallback markup rather than an empty div. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/spa), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router's experimental ssr: "unstable\_api-only" mode keeps a server for loaders and actions but builds a root-only index.html shell, and its production handler returns 404 for document requests. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/rendering), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router sets HTTP status codes from loaders and actions with the data() helper; the status code guide throws data("Not Found", { status: 404 }) to reach the route ErrorBoundary. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/status), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router's route module docs recommend React 19's built-in <title> and <meta> elements over the older meta export, which the <Meta /> component renders in the document head. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/route-module), read 5 November 2026.
- create-react-router can set up the React Router Agent Skill in a new project, and the --no-agent-skills flag skips copying it; the default template scaffolded on 2026-11-05 held .agents/skills/react-router/SKILL.md. \[observed, 2026-11-05\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/changelog), read 5 November 2026.
- reactrouter.com served no llms.txt on 2026-11-05 (status 404), although each docs page carries a Copy Page as Markdown control. \[observed, 2026-11-05\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/status), read 5 November 2026.
- The reactrouter.com home page footer reads "© 2026 Shopify, Inc.", and the same page says React Router is run under an Open Governance model. \[primary source\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/), read 5 November 2026.
- React Router is MIT licensed; the LICENSE file lists copyright holders React Training LLC (2015 to 2019), Remix Software Inc. (2020 to 2021) and Shopify Inc. (2022 to 2023). \[primary source\] [source](https://github.com/remix-run/react-router/blob/main/LICENSE.md), read 5 November 2026.

## Test build

- A default app made on 2026-11-05 with \`npx create-react-router@8.5.1 rr-app --yes --no-git-init --install --package-manager npm\`, built with \`npm run build\` and served with react-router-serve, returned status 404 with an H1 of "404" for /made-up-path-xyz; the home page HTML carried <title>New React Router App</title> but no H1 element. \[observed, 2026-11-05\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/status), read 5 November 2026.
- The same React Router 8.5.1 build answered Accept: text/markdown on / with text/html and Vary: Accept-Encoding only, and served no robots.txt, llms.txt or sitemap.xml (all 404) on 2026-11-05. \[observed, 2026-11-05\] [source](https://reactrouter.com/start/framework/rendering), read 5 November 2026.

## Products and plans

| Product | What it is | Price | As of | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| React Router | Open source routing library and full-stack React framework (framework, data and declarative modes), the successor to Remix. | Free, open source; MIT License | 2026-11-05 | source |

## Standards

| Standard | Status | What the vendor's pages say | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| llms-txt | no statement | No statement found in the React Router rendering, pre-rendering, SPA or route module docs about generating llms.txt; reactrouter.com itself returned 404 for /llms.txt on 2026-11-05. | none |
| markdown-negotiation | no statement | No framework feature found in the rendering or route module docs; the reactrouter.com docs site answers Accept: text/markdown for its own pages, but a default 8.5.1 app did not. | none |
| markdown-twin | no statement | No statement found in the React Router framework docs read; the .md copies on reactrouter.com belong to the docs site, not to apps built with the framework. | none |
| initial-html | supports | The pre-rendering guide names ssr:true as the default value for a runtime SSR server; prerender writes static HTML at build time. | source |
| real-404 | supports | The status codes guide throws data("Not Found", { status: 404 }) from a loader; a default build returned 404 for an unknown path. | source |
| vary-accept | no statement | No statement found in the framework docs read; the default react-router-serve response carried Vary: Accept-Encoding only. | none |

## Checks on its own site

| /llms.txt at the host root | HTTP 404, text/html, 6.7 KB | 2026-11-05 |
| A made-up path | HTTP 404 | 2026-11-05 |

## What it does not do

- The markdown negotiation seen on reactrouter.com is the docs site's own setup; React Router apps answer Accept: text/markdown with HTML unless you add a resource route. [source](https://reactrouter.com/how-to/status), read 5 November 2026.
