Agent Ready HTML

How to add JSON-LD agents use

In short

Add JSON-LD in the head of each page with the types that describe it: Organization and WebSite on the home page, BreadcrumbList on inner pages, TechArticle or Product where they apply. Google recommends JSON-LD, but the Vercel and Ora study measured no gain from it, so keep the same facts in visible text.

JSON-LD is cheap to add and easy to get wrong. It helps search systems that read it, and the evidence that it changes what an agent answers is thin, so treat it as description, not as the answer.

What the evidence says

  • Google recommends JSON-LD as the structured-data format easiest to maintain at scale. [primary source] source, read 4 November 2026.
  • Google says no special schema.org structured data is needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. [primary source] source, read 4 November 2026.
  • The Vercel and Ora study did not measure an accuracy or completion gain from JSON-LD. [primary source] source, read 4 November 2026.
  • Cloudflare Markdown for Agents keeps JSON-LD blocks and appends them in a fenced json block. [primary source] source, read 4 November 2026.
  • In the crawl, 53.8 percent of home pages that answered 200 carried JSON-LD; Organization (3,259) and WebSite (3,191) were the most common types (edition 2026-11-04). [primary source] source, read 4 November 2026.

Steps

  1. Put one script element with type application/ld+json in the head of each page.
  2. Use the type that fits the page: Organization and WebSite on the home page, BreadcrumbList on inner pages, TechArticle on guides, FAQPage only where the questions are on the page.
  3. Repeat every fact that matters in visible text. An agent that reads only the HTML body must not need the JSON-LD to find it.
  4. Check that the block parses: a block with a trailing comma is ignored.
  5. Run the viewer: the JSON-LD flag lists the types found on the page.

A minimal block for a home page

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "Example Co",
  "url": "https://example.com/"
}
</script>

Check the result

The JSON-LD flag in the viewer reads found and names the types. The crawl on the data page shows how common each type is. Open the viewer to run it on your own URL.
