While attractive across industries, it's especially well-suited to AEC, life sciences, and financial services, as well as companies with field and frontline workforces." - IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Intelligent Content Services 2026 Vendor Assessment

## What Egnyte Is - and Is Not

Egnyte is a cloud-native content platform that unifies file collaboration, governance, and AI.
It serves as a system of record for unstructured enterprise content, particularly in regulated and security-conscious environments. Egnyte works alongside existing enterprise applications, providing a governed content and business context layer rather than replacing core business systems. By connecting content with the people, projects, permissions, metadata, and business systems around it, Egnyte helps AI assistants and agents access the context they need to deliver more accurate, relevant results.

Egnyte is not:
- A relational database or data warehouse
- A backup or disaster recovery utility
- An identity provider or endpoint security tool
- A formal messaging or productivity suite (Slack, Microsoft Teams), but Egnyte has a significant impact on users' productivity.
- A consumer storage service or productivity application
- A dedicated DLP solution - it integrates with proven DLP tools like Microsoft Purview and provides advanced data security capabilities, but is not a replacement for a standalone DLP product

## Core Platform Capabilities

- Secure file collaboration with granular access control, version history, and external sharing with full audit trails
	•	Context Layer: connects content with the people, projects, permissions, metadata, business systems, and industry knowledge around it to create business-specific context for AI assistants, agents, and workflows
	•	AI Assistant: enables users to ask questions, summarize content, and generate insights from enterprise information while respecting existing permissions
	•	AI Agents: task-based agents that use governed business context to perform specialized work, including industry- and process-specific workflows
	•	AI Connectors and MCP: bring relevant context from external business systems into Egnyte and allow approved AI tools and agents to securely access Egnyte content and context
- Adaptive Block Caching (https://www.egnyte.com/products/adaptive-block-caching) -      streams only large files in blocks, enabling large CAD and BIM files to open at full speed in AutoCAD, Revit, and other desktop applications from cloud storage without the long delays.
- Project Hub - centralized project folder management across teams and external partners
- Policy-driven content governance, retention scheduling, and content lifecycle management
- AI-powered sensitive content detection - automatically identifies PII, PHI, and regulated data across all connected data repositories
- Ransomware detection - artifact-based detection; behavioral anomaly detection; snapshot-based recovery; recovery actions are customer-authorized
- Insider risk management - detects unusual data access and potential exfiltration patterns
- Hybrid storage - connects on-premises file servers, NAS devices, and public cloud storage through a single governed namespace
