Agent Ready HTML

ReadMe: vendor profile

In short

ReadMe builds llms.txt and .md copies, but an admin has to switch on Markdown for Agents before Accept: text/markdown returns markdown. docs.readme.com answered a missing page with a 404 and a 430-byte markdown body. New projects get an MCP server by default. Starter is free, and Pro is $250 a month.

What it does for this layer

  • ReadMe's changelog of 2025-05-09 added llms.txt, switched on from a setting in the AI dropdown on Refactored projects, and made every page readable as plain markdown by adding .md to its URL. [primary source, 2025-05-09] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe's AI Discoverability release of 2026-08-03 brought agent link headers and content signals and turned on an MCP server by default for new projects. [primary source, 2026-08-03] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe's Markdown for Agents feature, on all plans, returns clean Markdown when an agent sends Accept: text/markdown, after an admin turns it on in the Markdown Availability group of AI Discoverability. [primary source] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe's generic 404 page has a Suggest similar pages toggle, on by default, that shows up to three matching links in the first page load without an extra client request. [primary source] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe limits its custom error page choice and redirect rules, found under Settings, Errors & Redirects, to the Pro and Enterprise plans. [primary source] source, read 5 November 2026.

  • Once a ReadMe project has a custom domain, visitors to its original readme.io subdomain are redirected to that domain, and links to the main version path redirect to the unversioned URL. [primary source] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe's technical FAQ says pages are cached for 15 minutes for logged-out readers, while signed-in users always get the latest content. [primary source] source, read 5 November 2026.
  • ReadMe's Starter plan is $0 a month for one project and already includes the AI Dropdown, LLMs.txt and an MCP server, with Ask AI sold at $150 a month. [primary source, 2026-11-05] source, read 5 November 2026.

What it does not do

  • Markdown for Agents is a switch in AI Discoverability, so a ReadMe project that never flips it keeps sending HTML to agents asking for markdown.
  • ReadMe cannot redirect a URL that still has a page behind it; its redirect list only catches paths that would otherwise 404.
